This is wonderful of course, but I notice that the media always focuses on people with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities (high support needs) and to be honest, it's very misleading and it makes it look like all people with Autism need to be in life skills school or whatever, which is simply not true. It's a good thing, really, because the parents age and they can't care for their differently abled kids forever. So these people need prolonged care for life but need to have pseudo life skills to make it easier. You rarely ever hear stories about the people who are much more milder and have minimal support needs. Well, that's because those people are "almost" normal, and the stories would be too boring for the news. The only way people with lower support needs make themselves known is if they present themselves onto the media outlets to be advocates or tell their stories, but even with this, the news stations have no interest in looking into it and broadcast the stories. A lot of people like me are also artists, musicians, chefs, and writers, but the news stations still don't care. But at the end, it is excellent how there's people who care for people with more severe disabilities and are willing to help then live normally. Everyone wants to be included in society, and people need to be more inclusive.

When the girl said "SOMETIMES", why didn't they LISTEN TO HER "SOMETIMES"AND TAKE HER CONCERNS SERIOUSLY??!!! IF SHE HAS COMPLAINTS, THEN THESE COMPLAINTS SHOULD BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY INSTEAD OF BEING SWEPT UNDER THE RUG.

PT focuses primarily on physical health whereas OT focuses on a person's ability to carry out activities of daily living, what they need and want to do, but are having difficulty with due to a mental or physical disability, illness, accident etc. OT takes a holistic approach; considering all the aspects which affect occupational performance and health - such as physical, cognitive, psychological, environmental, perceptual, social etc... to enable a person to be as independent as possible. In a paediatric setting, OT assessment and intervention is used to develop, recover, or maintain the meaningful activities and skills needed for day-to-day life to enable growth and function in adult life. :-)

I wish I’d know about Vista when my son was younger. He has aspergers and living on his own but floundering. His job isn’t giving him any hours to work lately and he isn’t getting his housework done before his Dad arrives. I pay his bills for him from his social security check. Do you know of any homes like Vista in New York State?
